Contacting Mary Stewart

We've gotten several emails from people asking if we know how to get fan mail to Mary Stewart. I'm afraid I don't have a very good answer. I've never tried to write to her. Has anyone ever been successful in getting mail to her?

The only suggestion I have is to write to her c/o her publisher. Her American publisher is HarperCollins. Their contact page says that they will forward fan mail on to their authors. You should address the envelope as follows:

Mary Stewart
c/o Author mail, 7th Floor
HarperCollins Publishers
10 East 53rd Street, New York, NY 10022

Her British publisher, Hodder, does not have any info on their website about contacting authors. They might forward mail as well, but I'm not sure. I've written emails to them a couple times about it, but haven't gotten any response.

If anyone has any other info to share, please do!

What about just writing to

House of Letterawe, Loch Awe, Dalmally, Argyll PA33 1AH, Scotland

I would hate to invade her privacy, but somewhere I came upon this and kept it, thinking I wanted to write her sometime.

Theresak,

just to let you know that I wrote to her a little while ago, having found her address ages ago and - she REPLIED! I cannot tell you what a thrill it gave me to think that this fabulous woman wrote back to me and said how she enjoyed receiving letters from people who had read her books. So, everyone get writing!

I fell in love with Mary Stewart's novels when I was a teen--some 40 years ago. I wrote to her twice over the years--through her publishers--and received letters back from her both times. She was wonderfully kind and took the time to respond thoughtfully to all of my questions. I am certain that she would love to receive letters from all of her fans.

Someone special to me advised me to read Mary Stewart's novels. I attempted to find the Merlin trilogy but couldn't. So when I found a different novel of hers, Nine Coaches Waiting, I was excited to pick it up. The original copyright was 1958 but the book was re-released in 2006. Still a very good read today, it is a suspenseful mystery with romance woven throughout the story. I am an avid reader and look forward to reading other novels by Mary Stewart.

First of all, I just discovered this blog and am so excited!! I absolutely love Mary Stewart's novels.

Second, I wrote Mary Stewart back in 1990 (when I was 11) as part of a school project where we were assigned to contact our favorite author. I sent my letter to her publisher who wrote me back, saying that she would forward my letter on to Mary Stewart, but not to expect a response, as she gets an abundance of fan mail.

To my surprise, Mary Stewart sent me a hand-written note and signed autograph! I still have it to this day.

I have Loved reading Mary Stewart books since I was a child. My mother introduced me to her. She is my favorite author. My favorite book is Thornyhold, but I Love them all, and have them. I was serching today for a copy of Thornyhold for my kindle, and was surprised to find, that they have them all! The catch is: I am in the USA, and you can only purchase them if you have a kindle in the UK. I am so bummed. Does anyone know of a way to get them?

Hi all, in case you did not know, all four of Mary Stewart's Arthurian books are now available on kindle (at least in the USA) grouped together as "Legacy: Arthurian Saga". I have been waiting for this to be released on kindle for ages! Much joy.
