A few years ago I was at the Strand (a great used bookstore in NYC) and found a beautifully preserved hardcover copy of my very favorite Mary Stewart book, This Rough Magic. When I opened it up a little pamphlet fell out--the Literary Guild Review that came with the book when the original owner received it in 1964. I did a little happy dance right there in the store. It contains an interview with Stewart and a summary illustrated with these fantastic drawings. I had some fun with Photoshop and added in little excerpts of the text.
Lucy meets Sir Julian Gale.
Oh, Max. *Swoon*
Such great adventures.

Swoon is right. What a wonderful surprise find! I love those.
This is great! I love your choices of quotes. I'd have a hard time choosing between Max and Mark Langley, though.
Also, you have an award waiting for you here. :)

Angie -- Thanks!! It is a labor of love. ;)
Somebirds -- Oh, I think Max would win out for me. Mark would be a very fine second choice though. :)
What a treasure! Gotta love that Max Gale!
Delightful find for you! My only copy of this story is in "The Spell of Mary Stewart - Three Complete Books" published by Nelson Doubleday, Inc. in 1968 - my mom ordered it back then from some book club. This has been my annual "go to" reading ever since, and the book has become well-worn! You have inspired me to check out my local used bookstore for such a treasure as yours, though it could never replace my well-loved copy! Regarding luscious Max Gale, I consider him and Fitzwilliam Darcy as the ultimate swoon-worthy fictional men!
This was a lovely blog posst
