This Rough Magic newspaper ad

While roving the Internet today, I came across this webpage, which contains a lot of good info about This Rough Magic. It's part of a database on 20th century American bestsellers compiled by Library Science students at the University of Illinois. One thing I had never seen before was this newspaper ad that ran in the New York Times in 1964 when This Rough Magic was first published.

Were hardcovers really only $4.95 in 1964? Wow.

Cool ad! I love seeing things like this.

With inflation, $4.95 back then is now $33.19...

How happy I am to find your website! I have loved Mary Stewart for decades, and even tracked down a copy of The Wind Off the Small Isles. I'm really enjoying looking through your site. Thanks!

And paperbacks were fifty cents. I cannot believe I missed Wind Off Small Isles. I thought I had them all! Cool site, thanks.

Li--Wow! So books have actually gotten cheaper when you've accounted for inflation? Because few hardcovers these days cost $33.

Novice Stitcher--Yay for another fan! I finally found Wind off the Small Isles at a university library. It's hard to find here in the States.

Jackie--Small Isles is a novella and was only published in Britain, so it's pretty hard to find. Thanks for visiting!
